I've seen several aquariums in different parts of the world, but the Lisbon Oceanarium is the best and most beautiful. I love its architecture—it's like an island in the sea—and the main tank, around which the entire tour revolves, is simply mind-blowing. I could spend hours and hours just sitting there watching the fish. The "Cabecito" is absolutely gorgeous, and it's not only the main aquarium is worth seeing—all the other aquariums are spectacular as well.

I’ve visited quite a few aquariums over the years, but this one is on a completely different level. From the moment you step inside, the outside world seems to disappear. Instead of rushing from one exhibit to another, you naturally slow down and find yourself standing in front of the enormous central tank, completely mesmerized. I must have spent more time there than I planned—and I didn’t regret a single minute. What makes this place special isn’t just the impressive collection of marine life. It’s the feeling it creates. I visited the Oceanário with my family recently, and it left a lasting impression on all of us. It’s not just a beautiful place to see incredible marine life, it’s genuinely healing. If you're looking to escape Lisbon's hot afternoon sun, the Oceanário de Lisboa is the perfect place to spend a few hours. I first visited when it opened in 1998, and after all these years, it's still just as impressive. The exhibits are beautifully maintained and offer a fascinating glimpse into the underwater world. The massive central aquarium is the highlight. Every viewing window offers a completely different perspective, revealing new species and scenes each time you stop to look. What an amazing place! I loved the numerous viewing platforms for the primary exhibit so that there was no overcrowding and so that I could see the exhibit from different levels and perspectives. The information cards on the walls were simple to read but extremely informative and in numerous languages! The route through the aquarium was well labelled with arrows and lights and useful to see every display. This was an amazing visit. Highly recommend!

An incredible experience! The Lisbon Aquarium is truly magnificent and very well maintained. The different exhibits are immersive, the animals are impressive, and the large central tank is fascinating. You can easily spend several hours there without getting bored. I went to the Lisbon Aquarium today with my son. I have to say I really liked it—everything was clean and tidy, and the price was reasonable. The animals were beautiful. If you come to Lisbon, be sure to check it out.

First of all, you have to admit that it’s a beautiful facility—this aquarium is very well designed, and the fact that all the oceans are connected to one another is extraordinary; it makes you wonder how all these species coexist! However, there’s a lot of information missing about the species that live there and about the aquarium itself. It’s really disappointing because, aside from being dazzled by what’s behind the glass, you learn very little. Since the limited information available is only in English or Portuguese, this further limits the knowledge-sharing experience you’d expect to find at a place like this. Also, be aware that parking is very expensive—expect to pay €8 for about 3 hours. So for a family of four traveling by car, this (not very educational) tourist attraction costs nearly €100. That said, it was a pleasant visit because it wasn’t crowded, thanks to the time-slot reservations and the high price.

From exotic fish like the African Butterflyfish to tropical amphibians like the Dusky Salamandar, you'll see them all.

National Palaces

The two palaces sit 4km from each other, and have distinct identities. Pena Palace on the Portuguese Riviera, stands on the top of a hill in the Sintra Mountains above the town of Sintra. The palace and its surrounding gardens have unique aesthetics, representing 19th century Romanticism. The Palace of Sintra is much older, and serves as a present-day historic house museum. Being inhabited for nearly 8 centuries, the palace is filled to the brim with stories and legends of age-old monarchs.
