About Stonehenge

Up for a history adventure near London? Stonehenge, a massive 6,500-acre UNESCO World Heritage Site, is perfect for you. Admire the only surviving lintelled stone circle, where each colossal stone, averaging 25 tons, was transported over 250km. And Stonehenge's mysteries don't stop there! They've even found Roman artifacts around the site, hinting at visitors from way back then. Visit Stonehenge, a source of wonder for ages, even inspiring books, and movies, and lining up perfectly with the summer solstice.

Did you know?

The average Stonehenge stone weighs 25 tons, with the biggest one, the Heel Stone, clocking in at 30 tons.

The whole site covers a massive 6,500 acres. That's like 7 Central Parks in New York City all squished together!

Believe it or not, some of the stones at Stonehenge journeyed 240km all the way from South Wales by boat.

Stonehenge was accidentally bought at an auction in 1915 by local businessman Cecil Chubb who just wanted some dining chairs for £6,600! Luckily, 3 years later, he ended up giving it back so everyone could enjoy it.

Over 1,500 Roman trinkets have been found near Stonehenge - coins, jewelry, pins, and pottery shards, left by people visiting Stonehenge as a shrine.

Why visit Stonehenge?

Unique world heritage site

Stonehenge is the most architecturally sophisticated stone circle in the entire world and the only surviving one with lintels on top (beams that connect the rocks). Plus, the fact that some stones traveled 250km to get there and were assembled using precisely interlocking joints makes it even more impressive!

Archealogical wonder

Stonehenge is surrounded by over 350 burial mounds and other prehistoric monuments from the early Neolithic, late Neolithic, and early Bronze Ages, highlighting its importance for thousands of years. The earliest parts of Stonehenge were actually one of the biggest cremation cemeteries in Neolithic Britain!

Symbol of ancient craft

Stonehenge is an icon of the ancient world and a powerful image of ancient archaeological achievement! It's been painted, written about in poems and books, and even featured in movies and music. Even today, people come from all over to visit this mysterious place and feel its power.

The overall experience was great! Pick-up and drop-off were smooth and well-organised, though it would be helpful to receive more details about the pick-up location (like images or something). The tour staff were excellent and very helpful, punctual, and professional. The journey itself was comfortable with good seating. Stonehenge was absolutely worth the trip and I’d recommend this tour to anyone visiting from London!

The tour was very well organized, our driver gave us useful information about museums, restaurants and cafes while driving in London. After arrival to Stonehenge we had 2 hours free time and driver gave us tickets and pointed out where we can get shuttle to stones if we don't want to walk. All in all very nice half day trip from London.
