Pro tips to help you make a pick

Avoid long lines by booking your tickets in advance online. To fully appreciate the baths and their details, plan to spend at least 60-90 minutes here.

While the baths can be explored independently, a guided tour provides in-depth historical insights and access to hidden details.

Some passes like Go City and Omnia bundle the Caracalla Baths with other ancient Roman sites like the Colosseum or the Roman Forum, offering great value.

Check for special events. The baths sometimes host open-air concerts, operas, and light shows, making for a unique evening visit.

About Baths of Caracalla

The Baths of Caracalla, one of ancient Rome’s most impressive and best-preserved thermal complexes, offers a glimpse into the grandeur of Roman engineering and leisure culture. Built in the 3rd century AD, these vast ruins reveal an era of luxurious public bathing, exercise, and socializing. Visitors can explore the site through guided tours and book tickets online for a self-paced visit, experiencing the magnificent mosaics, towering structures, and underground passages.

Did you know?

At its peak, the baths could host up to 1,600 bathers at once. But it was not just for bathing – the complex housed libraries, gardens, and even art galleries, making it a true leisure center.

The design of New York’s Penn Station and other grand pieces of modern architecture drew inspiration from the Caracalla Baths.

Used for open-air concerts: the ruins serve as a stunning backdrop for operas and performances today.

A colossal Hercules sculpture once stood within the complex, parts of which are now in the Vatican Museums.

Easy access once you have the tickets. But make sure you actually receive the PDF tickets. I finally received them after messaging customer service for two hours. You couldn’t activate the Roma Pass using the QR code they showed on the app.

It’s really convenient to be able to use all forms of public transportation so easily. And waiting in line isn’t a problem either. Even when the electronic system at a museum went down, we were still able to get in. Everyone else had to leave. All in all, the pass was a great solution for us.

It was extremely difficult to get the ticket because there were apparently incorrect announcements about where to pick it up. A 40-minute walk, a missed time slot at the Colosseum—really a bummer. Why can’t you get the ticket online? Then I had to make several in-person visits to two offices; the staff were super friendly and super helpful. I would never book this ticket again—it’s too unclear what’s included, too expensive, and too old-fashioned.
