Pro tips to help you make a pick

Book tickets online in advance, especially from spring to autumn, as same-day queues can build up around Piazza della Rotonda.

Choose an audio guide ticket if you want flexibility while still understanding the dome, oculus, chapels, and tombs.

Pick a guided tour if you want deeper context on the Pantheon’s Roman engineering, Christian conversion, and Renaissance burials.

Consider combo tickets if you’re also visiting nearby Rome landmarks such as Castel Sant’Angelo, the Colosseum, or a Rome walking tour.

Carry a valid ID and dress modestly, as the Pantheon is an active church and visitor access may pause during religious services.

Did you know?

The Pantheon’s dome is still the world’s largest unreinforced concrete dome.

The oculus is open to the sky, so rain enters the building and drains through holes in the gently sloped marble floor.

The inscription on the façade credits Marcus Agrippa, although the present structure was rebuilt under Emperor Hadrian.

The Pantheon has been a functioning Catholic church since 609 AD, when it was consecrated as Santa Maria ad Martyres.

During Pentecost, rose petals are dropped through the oculus as part of a traditional ceremony.

Why visit Pantheon Rome?

Ancient Roman architecture

See one of ancient Rome’s best-preserved monuments, completed under Emperor Hadrian around 126 AD. Its portico, Corinthian columns, marble interiors, and perfectly balanced rotunda make it a must-see for architecture lovers.

The iconic oculus

Look up at the 9-meter-wide oculus, the only natural light source inside the Pantheon’s dome. Sunlight moves across the interior through the day, creating one of Rome’s most memorable architectural effects.

Record-breaking concrete dome

The Pantheon’s unreinforced concrete dome remains the largest of its kind in the world. Its design has inspired architects for centuries, including Renaissance and Baroque dome builders.

Temple turned church

Originally associated with ancient Roman worship, the Pantheon was consecrated as the Basilica of Santa Maria ad Martyres in 609 AD. This conversion helped preserve the structure through the Middle Ages.

Tombs of Raphael and Italian royals

Inside, you’ll find the tomb of Renaissance painter Raphael, along with the tombs of Italian kings Vittorio Emanuele II and Umberto I. A guided tour helps connect these later additions with the building’s ancient past.

I was able to enter quickly by purchasing tickets by pre-ordering online without waiting for a long time at the site. You can scan the T-cat purchased on your mobile phone and enter it easily without printing a separate paper ticket, so we highly recommend online pre-purchase. The magnificence of the Pantheom internal scrim is a must-experience place.

We booked our tickets for the Borghese Gallery through Headout and the whole process was an absolute breeze. We were a couple of travelers from Greece visiting Rome for a few days, and we really didn't want to deal with long queues or scrambling for last-minute tickets (which are usually sold out anyway). The app was a lifesaver—we just showed the barcode on our phones at the entrance and walked right in. As for the gallery itself, words can't even describe it. It's honestly the most beautiful and well-curated museum we saw during our entire trip to Italy. What completely blew our minds were the sculptures by Bernini. Masterpieces like 'Apollo and Daphne' and 'The Rape of Proserpina' are so incredibly detailed that the marble literally looks like real, soft skin. Of course, being from Greece, we couldn't help but notice and be totally amazed by all the ancient Greek elements and mythology that dominate so many of the pieces, both in the sculptures and the stunning ceiling frescoes. It gave us a really nice sense of familiarity walking through those rooms. The organization inside the gallery was spot on, too. It wasn't overly crowded at all because of the strict two-hour time slots, which meant we could actually take our time and enjoy the art in peace. I highly recommend it—both visiting this amazing place and using the Headout platform, which worked like a charm!
