About Reina Sofia National Museum of Art Center

As a cornerstone of Madrid’s famed Art Walk, the Reina Sofía Museum is a must for any art collection journey. Its unrivaled focus on Spanish modern and contemporary art, from Cubism to Surrealism, complements the Prado and Thyssen museums, offering a complete panorama of artistic evolution in the heart of the city.

Did you know?

The museum’s main building was originally the 18th-century Sabatini Hospital, later transformed into a modern art space.

Picasso’s Guernica, the museum’s star attraction, measures over 11.5 feet tall and 25 feet wide—far larger than most visitors expect.

The Jean Nouvel extension, added in 2005, features three striking glass elevator towers and a triangular steel-and-glass atrium.

The Reina Sofía houses Spain’s largest collection of 20th-century art, with nearly 2,000 works spanning from 1881 to the present.

The museum’s art library is open to the public and contains over 100,000 volumes, making it a major resource for art research.

I loved how the Thyssen museum complemented the Prado perfectly. The collection was incredibly diverse, from Renaissance paintings to modern art, and the layout made it easy to enjoy each room without feeling overwhelmed. Some of the Impressionist and modern pieces were especially memorable, and the atmosphere of the museum was calm and elegant. It was a great way to experience different periods of European art in one visit.”

That's all well and good, but at one ticket window, the staff wasn't very familiar with the system. That didn't stop us from having some great visits, though.

Enjoyed reduced price entry over the three biggest galleries in Madrid. The app had a tendency to glitch when displaying the barcode and other info and twp of the three galleries issued their own tickets having scanned said barcode. This ticket provides a great overbview of old masters at the Prado, Picassa's Gurnica and other treats at the Reina Sofia and the Thyssen brings you right up to date including a mix of old favourites (Renoir, Degas) and modern art from the likes of Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Piet Mondrian and Kandinsky
