FamilyVerified booking2 weeks ago5/5We really enjoyed the tour. It was a little difficult to find the German guide at first, since there were so many different groups waiting in front of the entrance. But after that, everything went perfectly. The audio guides we were given made sure we understood everything clearly at all times. The tour was very informative and presented in an engaging way. We walked a bit off the beaten path and were lucky enough to often spend some time inside the buildings with our small group without the crowds. This allowed us to learn interesting facts and immerse ourselves in the history of Pompeii. Diana, our guide, was very sweet and did a great job of involving the three children who were on the tour. She was able to answer every question that was asked. After the two-hour tour, we had time to explore everything on our own. Since it was unbelievably hot, it would have been nice to have an umbrella for shade—unfortunately, we didn’t think of that... We’ll definitely come back during a cooler season, since it’s impossible to see everything in just one day...MMartin T
CoupleVerified bookingLast week5/5I really enjoyed this tour with a local archaeologist who had worked in Pompei. Tbh, you would be lost without a guide in this vast city which had remained uncovered for over 1500 years. He showed us the locsl bakery, gymnasium, brothel (yes!!) and many more houses and sights that you wouldn't discover alone without a lot of reading and luck. I'd definitely recommend this tour. Also, ignore the peddlars at the train station.KKerrie S
SoloVerified booking2 weeks ago5/5This was a amazing tour, I can definitely recommend. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and has worked on digs at Pompeii, so also has first hand experience. Well worth doing a guided tour for a couple of hours to see the main and popular areas and then staying on to explore other areas by yourself. It's so big and needs most of the day (even longer) to explore this amazing site.OOlivia W
FamilyVerified booking3 weeks ago5/5Pompeii is amazing, but it's massive and you'll need time. The archaelogist guide was fabulous and was able to answer whatever anything we put to her. 2 hours with her was not enough but it gave us a really good knowledge to roam around and see more for ourselves. Would highly recommend it!SSára H
CoupleVerified bookingJul 20265/5Our guide with a ,,big situation'' (he knows:)) gave us all the interesting facts in a very humorous way. We loved every second of the tour and would highly recommend booking a visit with an archeologist. Ciao from the Czech Republic <3
Through an archaeologist's lens
Take a 2-hour guided walk through Pompeii, an archaeological marvel, offering insights into daily life during the Roman Empire. Breeze past the queue with the skip-the-line ticket, and begin your expedition with an archaeologist guide through ancient streets and the bustling Forum, a central public space serving as the heart of civic, commercial, and social activities.
Learn about the city's history, including the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. This volcanic eruption buried the city under a thick layer of ash and pumice, preserving it remarkably well for centuries. Discover hidden secrets of attractions like the Basilica, the Thermopolium of Asellina, and the Stabian Baths, considered to be the oldest public baths in the city, constructed during the 2nd century BC.
Walk through Pompeii’s highlights
Stroll down the Via dell’Abbondanza to reach the Teatro Grande, Pompeii's foremost theatre, primarily hosting theatrical performances, musical events, and various public spectacles. Throughout the exploration, you'll have the opportunity to appreciate ancient Roman artworks. Have the opportunity to step into the culinary world of ancient Pompeii as you explore the Thermopilia, ancient Roman "fast-food" establishments that once served as communal gathering spaces for locals.
Get to see the erotic frescoes woven into the walls of Pompeii's ruins where your guide will provide a nuanced perspective on the sensual aspects of Pompeii's culture.
Visit Foro, a hub of ancient political activities where you can get a sense of political chatters that once existed in these ruins. End the tour at the 'Calchi dei Corpi,' plaster casts that preserve the final moments of victims during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
