Did you know?

Home to 18,000+ rare volumes, Liria’s library includes a first-edition Don Quixote, Columbus’s letters and maps, and King Ferdinand II’s will. It’s basically the VIP lounge of Spanish history.

Bombed and burned during the Spanish Civil War, the palace was rebuilt from just four surviving walls. Today, it stands fully restored—grander than ever.

Since 2019, visitors can tour 12+ rooms still used by the Duke of Alba’s family. It’s a rare museum where people actually still live with the art.

In 2024, Liria’s Versailles-inspired gardens opened to the public for the first time, complete with mythological statues, sphinxes, and a touch of aristocratic mystery.

Legends like Boccherini, Tchaikovsky, and Strauss wrote music for Liria. Tours now feature soundscapes and stories that make every room sing—literally.

The Royal Palace of Madrid is truly extraordinary. The part open to the public is a sight to behold. In addition to the Palace, you can also visit the Royal Armory, where you can see a collection of countless suits of armor belonging to the various kings who have lived there. The admission fee was well worth it. After the tour, there’s also a section of the gardens you can explore, which I highly recommend. As for the Almudena Cathedral, which is right across the street, I only saw it from the outside—I just don’t understand why you’d pay €8 to enter a Christian church. But some people do pay.
