Pro tips to help you make a pick

Don’t miss the elevator to the rooftop terrace (entrance on the side of the monument) — the view over the Roman Forum and Colosseum is one of the best in Rome.

Don't miss the flag ceremony. On national holidays, like Republic Day, you might catch official ceremonies or a military parade in the square below.

The Museo del Risorgimento (inside the monument) tells the story of Italy’s unification — a good stop for history lovers.

The side terraces before the paid rooftop also offer great free views — especially over Piazza Venezia and Via dei Fori Imperiali.

About Altare della Patria

The Altare della Patria stands in Piazza Venezia, where important speeches and public events once took place, especially during Italy’s 20th-century history. The monument itself caused controversy when built — parts of the Capitoline Hill and medieval neighborhoods were demolished to make space for it. Today, it’s home to the Museum of the Risorgimento, which tells the story of Italy’s unification, and its rooftop terrace offers one of the best views over ancient and modern Rome.

Hello! It was by far the most interesting outing we've ever been on together! A very informative and impressive highlight for us! The audio guide was also really great, and it was easy to follow along with the different sections since they were always numbered. Thank you for this wonderful experience!

Entry was super fast and hassle-free, and the audio guide was very detailed. I recommend downloading the app before you enter because the internet connection inside is slow; once I downloaded it, the audio guide link worked perfectly throughout the entire visit.

We got our tickets electronically and we just had to go to the ticket office at Doria Pamphilj at our assigned time. The tickets included an audio guide so we already brought wired earbuds and the museum was one of the very best in Rome.
