The archaeologist was excellent and very knowledgeable. However, as we were always on the move and it required much concentration not to lose the thread of the information imparted, there was not time to look at the map to get a sense of where we were within Pompeii and location of the highlighted features within the town. After we finished the tour the guide pointed out where we had walked around Pompeii and surprisingly it was only a relatively small section of the town.

A lovely tour though basically the entire site, with great info from our wonderful and passionate guide Theresa. We even got to see the 2 lovers garden! Only drawback was the scoarching summer heat, but it was well worth it.

Sarah did a wonderful job explaining the history of Pompei. It was very interesting and presented in a relevant and humorous way. I'm really glad I did this tour! We got to see all the important parts in 3 hours! Plus cats:)

But the true highlight of this tour is none other than the Villa of the Mysteries, where you can see the mysterious paintings on the walls depicting ancient ceremonies.

What to bring

A valid ID or passport is required for entry.

It’s recommended to wear comfortable shoes as this experience involves a fair amount of walking.

It is recommended to bring sunglasses, sunscreen and water. Flip-flops are not suitable.

Only small dogs on a leash can be brought inside the park. Guide dogs with a certificate are permitted.

What’s not allowed

Flash photography and tripods are allowed in this experience.

This tour is not recommended for travelers with mobility issues or impairments, because of challenging terrain.

The fee for the excavation sites of Pompeii is free for all first Sundays of the month.
