Francesco (I think) was our tour guide for Herculaneum and he was fantastico !! He was funny & friendly & extremely knowledgeable having spent a lot of his youth hanging around Herculaneum in his free time... Herculaneum was a different experience to Pompeii & I would highly recommend visiting it as it is more preserved than Pompeii and has a fantastic museum full of artifacts. Definitely put this on your to do list if you are in the Napoli area !! ☆☆☆☆☆

Luciano, our guide, was brilliant. It is well worth a visit . The site is much smaller than Pompeii and has a lot more shade. Can get a good insight in the 2 hour tour.

Great experience, entry in site without waiting and got full experience of Herculaneum. Herculaneum is so beautifull place, The villas in Herculaneum are very well preserved and give us an excellent picture of the life of the ancient rich inhabitants of the Roman Empire. Herculaneum is much smaller than Pompeii, which was a trading city, while Herculaneum was a resting place for the rich. I like it a lot because it is smaller than Pompeii and it seems to me that there are many more original Roman paintings on the walls of the houses, as well as original prayer altars in the villas of the rich. All in all, I recommend that visitors, in addition to Pompeii, also visit Herculaneum in order to get a complete picture of the life of both ordinary people and the rich inhabitants of ancient Rome. My visit to Herculaneum is a great life experience that I will never forget and I can freely recommend it to anyone who is nearby. Entering and staying in the locality of Herculaneum is very easy, fast and pleasant!

Using Headout for tickets to Herculaneum was one of the best ideas on our holiday. The app was so easy to use and kept us calm and relaxed knowing that we would travel there without any stress. We got to Herculaneum as it opened which i highly recommend as we beat the coaches by a good hour. We had the place to ourselves for most of our tour. The audio guide that we had worked really well with the map provided so we knew exactly where we were. I would definitely use the Headout app again in the future.

Il sito archeologico di Ercolano è davvero affascinante. È molto ben organizzato, gli addetti alla reception ci hanno dato tutte le indicazioni per svolgere la visita al meglio. Il livello di conservazione è incredibile e ci sono locali ed abitazioni in grado di raccontare la vita di allora. Anche l'audio-guida ufficiale del parco è un ottimo aiuto. Abbiamo visitato Pompei e poi Ercolano nello stesso giorno.

Tickets were good. Audio guide was very useful, although it did jump location at times, but could be rectified. Visited in August 26, and it was hot 40 degrees. Drinks machines were available on site

Herculaneum Archaeological Park

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Herculaneum offers a rare glimpse into daily Roman life, frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. This compact site is renowned for its exceptional preservation, making it a standout among ancient ruins.

Preserved structures: Walk along original Roman streets and see intact roofs, beds, doors, and even remnants of ancient food, offering a tangible connection to the past.

What to bring

Carry a valid photo ID or passport for verification at entry.

If you opt for a digital audio guide, bring your own headphones for a better listening experience.

Wear sturdy, comfortable footwear as the ground is uneven in many areas.

Since most of the visit takes place outdoors, pack sunscreen, sunglasses, water, and a hat. The site remains open in all weather conditions, so a light raincoat or umbrella is also useful.

What’s not allowed

Large backpacks, suitcases, and bulky luggage cannot be brought inside or on transfer services.

Food and drinks are not included and may be restricted in certain zones.

Pets are not allowed, except for certified service animals.

Smoking, alcohol, and any prohibited substances are strictly banned on-site.

Flash photography and the use of tripods or professional filming gear may be limited in some areas.

Accessibility

Due to uneven surfaces and steep sections, the site is not fully accessible and may pose challenges for visitors with reduced mobility.

Some ramp access can be arranged at the entrance for those with motor disabilities, though not all parts of the site can be reached.

Accessible restrooms are available.

There is no facility for storing luggage on-site.

The guidebook is available only in English and in a digital, downloadable format. No hard copies available.

Children must be accompanied by an adult during the visit.

Certain areas may be closed temporarily due to restoration work or operational needs.

The site is open from 8:30am to 5pm from 15 October to 15 March (last entry 3:30pm), and from 8:30am to 7:30pm between 16 March and 14 October (last entry 6pm).

Free admission is offered on the first Sunday of each month and on select public holidays; reduced fares are available for eligible visitors with a valid ID.

If you’re using a digital audio guide app, it’s best to download it before arrival, as mobile network coverage on-site may be limited.
