We arrived at the north gate; it was early in the morning, and all the shops were just opening. The line to get into the castle moved quickly, and we started with the ramparts. They’re spectacular, but the castle itself was a letdown—it’s pretty basic because the areas that are open to the public aren’t very interesting. Otherwise, it was great.

No wait at the entrance. Self-guided tour, which lets you take your time and enjoy it to the fullest. A wonderful experience.

It was a wonderful trip. We arrived in Carcassonne and stayed at a hotel called Le Florentine, which is very close to the entrance to the walled city—you can even see the castle from there. Inside the city, the streets are charming, and there are plenty of places to eat and buy souvenirs. I 100% recommend buying tickets to the castle, since it’s the heart of the city and it’s totally worth learning about its history and seeing what it’s like inside.

The entire castle and the fortress walls are amazing and well worth a visit. The visual presentation on the first floor was especially beautiful and fascinating. We’ve never seen anything like it, and we travel all over the world.
