    Present your entrance ticket to the Royal Mews at the admission point and pass through airport-style security checks, keeping bags light and closed. After entry, collect your multimedia tour in 9 languages from the designated area. Then follow the mostly outdoor but covered visitor route to begin exploring the working stables and carriage areas at your own pace.

    Royal Mews

    This is the working home of the royal collection of carriages, coaches, and some horses that support ceremonial duties for Buckingham Palace.

    Features:

    • Iconic royal carriages: See carriages and cars used by the Royal Family, including the Gold State Coach and the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, which are prepared here for major state occasions and royal processions.

    • Meet the royal horses: Spend time in the carriage horses and stables area, where the working horses are based when supporting ceremonial duties from the Mews.

    • Interactive experiences: Try out a royal carriage in the replica Landau and practice tacking up a wooden pony, which provides hands-on ways to understand how horses and vehicles are prepared for processions. Explore interactive displays, a family multimedia guide, and downloadable educational resources for children and families, along with special family activities and trails that are free with standard admission.

    • Multimedia commentary: Use the free multimedia guide, available in 9 languages and offering British Sign Language, subtitles, and audio-descriptive options, to learn about royal transportation and the history of the Mews as you move through each space.

  • What to bring

    • Carry only bottled water if you wish to drink inside the Royal Mews.

    What’s not allowed

    • Do not eat or drink inside the Royal Mews, except for bottled water.

    • Place all drinks and food in closed bags before admission.

    • Large bags are not allowed on this experience.

    • Do not carry pen-knives or scissors, as these are prohibited.

    • Avoid loud mobile phone use and consider other visitors.

    • Due to venue restrictions, pets cannot tag along for this experience.

    • Selfie sticks cannot be used near the horses.

    Accessibility

    • This experience is wheelchair and pram/stroller accessible.

    • Your guide dogs are welcome at the venue.

    • Use the accessible toilet and Changing Space available on-site.

    • Make use of the seating available throughout your visit.

    • Use the downloadable sensory map and photo journey to plan your visit.

    • Expect support from Wardens, who are Dementia Friends.

    Additional information

    • Expect airport-style security checks for you and your belongings on arrival. Bring as little as possible to help speed up security screening.

    • London Blue Badge Guides can guide only at two points in the Main Quadrangle.

    • Plan for some wait time when lining up for the experience, especially on weekends and holidays.

    • The Changing the Foot Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace currently takes place on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday (subject to availability). On other days, you will see the Changing the Horse Guard instead.
