The Play That Goes Wrong is absolute chaos — and that’s what makes it brilliant. Watching a group of actors desperately trying to keep a collapsing murder mystery alive is both hilarious and strangely impressive. Every door that refuses to open, every line forgotten, every ‘dead body’ that won’t stay still turns disaster into art. By the time the corpse stood up and accused the detective, I wasn’t watching a play anymore — I was watching reality fall apart in the funniest way possible.

how chaotic it was. I mean I laughed for 2 hours straight. I'm an international student at The University of Surrey in my first year. So leaving home and being alone is something new. So I wanted to plan a one day solo trip to London. I am a musical theatre kid but for some reason this play spoke to me. And it made me laugh so much and feel so good that it got my mind of the being alone in a new place. I 100% recommend it and will come back for the Christmas one!

I was familiar with the play, having watched clips of them online beforehand. It lived up to the expectations in every way! Some of the actors were already walking around the theater audience hall beforehand, making the experience very immersive, even before the play began. We bought the program as well, which is a whole experience in itself, continuing the theme of the play.

    The story

There’s been a murder at a country estate, and Inspector Carter is on the case. But with the Cornley Drama Society in charge, solving the crime is the least of their worries. Props malfunction, doors won’t open, actors miss cues, and one even gets stuck in a grandfather clock. The cast desperately tries to hold the show together through all the chaos, resulting in relentless, side-splitting comedy. Will they make it to the curtain call? Probably. Will anything else survive?
