About National Palace Museum

The National Palace Museum centers on portable imperial artworks once associated with Beijing's Forbidden City, rather than palace architecture itself. In Taipei, it presents about 700,000 artifacts through bronzes, jade, ceramics, and rotating scroll displays that change regularly because only a small portion of the collection can be shown at one time.

Did you know?

Only a small portion of the museum's about 700,000 artifacts is on display at one time; regular rotations help protect fragile works.

Why visit National Palace Museum?

About 700,000 Imperial Artifacts in One Museum

The museum houses about 700,000 Chinese imperial artifacts, spanning bronzes, jades, ceramics, paintings, calligraphy, and court treasures. Only a small portion is displayed at any one time, so even a focused 2–3 hour visit introduces a collection far larger than most visitors can finish in a single day.

Main Entrance (Front Forecourt Entrance)

Located at the top of the main staircase from the forecourt/plaza area of the National Palace Museum’s main exhibition building in Waishuangxi, Shilin District, this is the primary entrance for all visitors. General admission guests, tour groups, taxi drop-offs, and bus arrivals all use this entry. Tickets are purchased or validated here, with a separate ticket-purchase line and security/entry line. Online ticket holders can bypass the on-site purchase queue but must still pass security and the entry gates. The entrance is recognizable by the main stairs, forecourt, and monumental front approach. Ramps and elevators are available, although the exact step-free route is not clearly mapped in the checked sources.

Taipei 101 observatory delivers stunning views of Taipei and its surrounding landscapes. Ticketing and marshaling processes are clear, organized and efficient. Staff are very welcoming and helpful. Displays on the 89th and 101st floors offer fun, whimsical and floral backgrounds to what could be plain walls and empty space - yet they do not distract from the scenic views. The cafe and gift shop are offer a nice variety drinks, treats and keepsakes to enhance the experience. Handicap accessible spaces. A must see and experience, especially on clear days and nights to see the lights of the building and city!! Great value for the experience!!
