    The Story

Uncle Vanya begins in the heat of the summer where Sonya and her uncle Vanya are wasting their days in a deteriorating estate deep in the countryside. Their only visitor is the local doctor Astrov, who drops by occasionally. The story picks up when Sonya's father Professor Serebryakov returns with his new wife Yelena, a restless enigma. Serebryakov announces his intention to sell the house and immediately all the pretend politeness fades away and feelings, long-repressed, come rushing back to the surface, leading to devastating consequences.
