Hadestown is a brilliant allegory - in the musical, art imitates life as the Devil sets a tempting table (job - aka money - food and warmth) - or the creature "comforts" of Man in this world, Hadestown - that men will sell their souls for, and they get so immersed in them, this so-called freedom the Devil offers via those comforts is actually a prison from which there is no escape. And, as it has been since the beginning of time, Doubt is the ultimate enemy. But can you trust the Father of Lies to keep his promise? Assigning a virtue to the Devil - keeping a promise - that he will lay that golden fiddle at Johnny's feet when he gets beat in Georgia, or that Eurydice is right behind Orpheus as they make their escape, is a huge leap of faith.

I enjoyed Hadestown very much! I chose it sight unseen on my daughter's advice and did not want to read reviews so as not to be influenced, but I must say I was thrilled. I chose side seats in the upper balcony, I was afraid I would not see well, but instead everything was perfect. The performances of the performers were masterful, but an extra point, in my opinion, goes to the "Fates," three different voices fused into one sound, jaw-dropping! If you do not know which show to choose, choose Hadestown!

I'm well familiar with the soundtrack of the show, but it was only when seeing it in person that I realized how magnificently produced it was, as well as how much political messaging i missed when listening to the soundtrack. We also got to meet the actors after the show! They were so kind and always open to talk, take photos and rough our playbills! In today's world I feel it is a must watch musical, with so much messaging and flawless production- honestly i was amazed during the whole show, definitely would recommend
  • The rollercoaster Underworld saga, set in the world of Greek mythology, is returning to London after it first played at the National Theatre in 2018. After opening to rave reviews and critical acclaim, Anaïs Mitchell and Rachel Chavkin’s Hadestown was nominated for 14 Tony Awards in 2019, a record-breaking number, and won 8 of them. It also holds a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. So, there is no doubt that Hadestown in London is going to be a phenomenal experience. Get your tickets for Hadestown before they run out. The Underworld has never looked better.

    The story

A story about the trials and tribulations of love, Hadestown focuses on two couples — the poverty-ridden Orpheus and Eurydice and the King of the Underworld, Hades and his wife, Persephone. When Persephone is miserable about returning to the Underworld after she visits the world above, Hades heads out to search for someone who will appreciate the offerings of his home. He finds Eurydice and convinces her to move to the Underworld in exchange for food and protection. Eurydice agrees and becomes a worker at Hadestown, the dark underground factory of Hades. When Orpheus finds out, he vows to save Eurydice. What follows is a heartbreaking tale of sacrifice, triumph and the mysterious machinations of fate.

It was so emotional and moving, the story, the songs, the music and the dancers. I saw it in Amsterdam and now in London!
