The ship hosting the laser arena — De Zwarte Zwaan — was originally built as a coal elevator for fuelling ocean-going vessels in Rotterdam's harbour, before being converted into a community meeting place for inland waterway sailors

For decades, De Zwarte Zwaan served as a social hub for barge crews, offering them a fixed postal address, showers, laundry facilities, and telephone access during the long weeks they waited at port for work assignments.

The 300 m² laser tag arena is built inside the ship's hold, where sonar sounds and water effects are piped in to make players feel as though they are battling deep underwater in a real submarine.
