Dragão Stadium isn’t named after a fantasy novel—it’s a full-blown symbol of FC Porto’s identity and stands for strength, resilience, and that fierce “never-back-down” attitude.

Back in 2003, during the stadium’s big opening match, a 16-year-old kid named Lionel Messi made his first senior appearance for Barcelona. Porto won, and Messi’s debut flew under the radar. These days, Porto fans casually drop, “We saw him first.”

Dragão Stadium was the first European stadium to earn the EU’s “GreenLight” badge for energy-efficient lighting. Turns out, even a stadium with fire in its name can lead the way in sustainability.

The stadium’s roof has transparent panels arranged to look like dragon scales. Architect Manuel Salgado didn’t just build a stadium, he designed a beast watching over the pitch.

The only problem is that there are reserved time slots that aren't visible when you book online. So we visited the museum first and then went to the stadium two hours later. The shopping center next door helped us pass the time and grab a bite to eat.

Very nice river trip. Boat was traditionally wooden, clean and it was a lovely day so we sat out on the deck. Crew were friendly and polite, nice views of Porto from the Douro
