About Grand Palace Bangkok

The Grand Palace combines a former royal residence with Thailand’s most sacred Buddhist temple in the same enclosed complex. A single visit covers Wat Phra Kaew, the Ramakien mural cloister, royal audience halls, and museum spaces such as the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles, giving religious, political, and artistic context in about 2–3 hours.

Did you know?

The Emerald Buddha is not actually emerald. Tourism Authority of Thailand describes it as green jade or jasper, and the figure is only about 66 cm high.

Wat Phra Kaew houses the Emerald Buddha, a green jade or jasper figure about 66 cm high set high above the altar. Its gold costumes are changed three times a year by the King in a seasonal ceremony, making this the spiritual center of the complex. Photography is forbidden inside the ordination hall.

Main Public Entrance (Na Phra Lan Road / Outer Court Gate)

Located on Na Phra Lan Road opposite Sanam Luang, this is the main public entrance used by nearly all visitors and tours. The ticket pavilion is beside this gate, and the entry flow typically includes security and bag screening, dress-code checks, ticket purchase or voucher handling, and then ticket scanning at inner checkpoints. Morning queues build quickly from around 9am, so arriving near opening usually means a shorter wait. The approach is largely level, but dense crowds and security lanes may be difficult for wheelchair users without assistance. Follow the palace wall and crowd lines on Na Phra Lan Road to find the correct gate.
