The boat ride allowed us to see both riversides and the bridges. Even though it was very hot—even though it was only 10:30—the ride was pleasant.

To start with, the boarding point was much closer to the Dom Luís I Bridge than what was listed in the brochure: it was the DouroAzul company. The cruise was pleasant. If it’s sunny, you don’t really feel the heat, so watch out for sunburn and remember to bring sunscreen! The only downside to the cruise was the audio guide commentary, which had some glitches. But the recordings were well-suited and very short! We were able to enjoy the scenery. As for the tour of the winery, you should book a time slot in your preferred language (French, English, etc.) in advance if possible. But if you haven’t done so—which was our case—there was space available when we arrived for the next time slot. The winery is located right at the exit of the pedestrian bridge, on the lower level, to the left, on the Vila Nova de Gaia side. The guide was fantastic. He explained everything to us about the production of Port wines, their appellations, the different types, and the local customs and traditions. This cruise and winery tour package is a great way to spend two hours and explore the area!
