Went solo cause my friends bailed last min, but honestly—no regrets. The ferry ride over was a bit bumpy (bring a jacket if ur not into wind) but the views? EPIC. Once on the island, it’s all go-go-go, but the guide (ex-prisoner, which blew my mind) made it soooo personal. Hearing about his own time inside those walls… I was lowkey tearing up. You only get a short moment at Mandela’s cell, but it’s enough. Wish I could’ve taken pics inside but nope, not allowed. Worth every rand.

Went with my parents and teenage brother. Tour was very informative, though the bus was kinda cramped and windows fogged up. Our guide had a dry sense of humor that kept things interesting. The prison part felt heavy—kids got a bit antsy, but still learned a lot. Ferry was on time. Bring snacks, there’s nothing to buy on the island!

Traveled with my partner. The stories from the guide were INTENSE and real—he’d actually spent years there. I’ll never forget his voice echoing in those halls. The group was big (maybe 40?) but never felt lost. Ferry ride in the morning was chilly, def bring layers. Overall, a moving day.

Incredible experience! We went as a group of friends and all left feeling pretty humbled. Our guide was an ex-inmate—so raw and honest. The ferry left late but it just added to the anticipation. Not much shade on the island so bring sunscreen or u’ll fry. Def worth the early wake-up.

Mixed feelings tbh. The history is POWERFUL—can’t argue with that. But we felt a bit herded around, like, no time to reflect. Guide was knowledgeable but hard to hear sometimes (mic kept cutting out). We were rushed through Mandela’s cell. Glad I went, maybe not my fave tour ever.
