Choose general admission if you’re driving or taking the bus. It includes access to the galleries and grounds plus the O device or app, but it does not include ferry transport.

Standard ferry + admission is the main Hobart option: return ferry from Brooke Street Pier plus museum entry. It suits first-time visitors who want MONA’s river approach without the premium Posh Pit fare.

Posh Pit is a comfort upgrade, not extra museum access. You get priority ferry boarding, a separate lounge, complimentary drinks and canapés, but the galleries inside are the same as the standard ferry ticket.

Use the ticket structure to compare value: general admission is the lowest-cost paid option, standard ferry + entry sits above it, and Posh Pit is the premium tier. Exact prices, Tasmanian concessions and member/free-entry policies can change, so check current rates.

Prebook ferry departures for weekends, holidays and summer. MONA and visitor reports both note that preferred ferry times can sell out, especially if you want a specific return slot.

Do not expect a true skip-the-line museum ticket. Posh Pit can reduce ferry boarding hassle, but no official ticket bypasses bag checks or entry screening at MONA.

There is no standard live guided tour inside the museum. All main ticket types are self-guided, and artwork interpretation comes through the O device or the MONA app rather than wall labels.

Plan your timing around the ticket type: museum-only visits are typically about 3–6 hours onsite, while standard ferry or Posh Pit visits usually take about 5–6 hours in total including the crossings.

If you want a sit-down meal at The Source or Faro, reserve it separately before your visit. Restaurant timing can shape your ferry choice and overall pace on busy days.

If mobility is a concern, general admission with self-drive may be easier than ferry boarding. MONA has lifts and ramps, but the site is large, underground and can involve long or steep routes.
