Two Exhibitions, Two Worlds Of Photography

KBr Fundación MAPFRE in Barcelona brings photography to life inside a contemporary space at Port Olímpic. You’ll explore rotating exhibitions that spotlight photographers who shaped how the world sees everyday life, culture, and change.

    Walker Evans: Now and Then

Walker Evans (1903–1975) is one of the defining voices of modern photography and a key visual chronicler of 20th-century United States. His images look simple at first glance, but they hold a sharp, observant eye on ordinary life, city scenes, and anonymous faces in a country in transition.

Curated by David Campany, Walker Evans: Now and Then presents a wide view of Evans’ career, from his early photographs in the 1920s to his later experiments with Polaroid in the 1970s. Expect iconic images and major projects that show his direct, austere style and his deep curiosity for the signs of popular culture.

    Pérez Siquier: Fundación MAPFRE Collections

Carlos Pérez Siquier (Almería, 1930–2021) was a central figure in Spanish photography and one of the major renovators of 20th-century visual language. Working largely from his hometown, he captured Spain’s social and cultural transformations with sensitivity, irony, and a distinctly modern gaze.

A pioneer of color photography, and a co-founder of the Agrupación Fotográfica Almeriense and the AFAL magazine, Pérez Siquier played a major role in establishing photography as an artistic discipline in Spain. This exhibition brings together works added to Fundación MAPFRE’s photography collection since 2022, with highlights from emblematic series like La Chanca, Informalisms, and The Beach, tracing his shift from black-and-white into color and the singular vision that defined his work.
