This immersive experience at the Bassins des Lumières was enchanting. After going through the massive wildfire in Gironde—with the evacuations, the suffocating smoke, the stress…—I felt the need to escape from that reality. The Bassins des Lumières took me on a multisensory journey, allowing me to discover Matisse’s work in 360°. Magnificent.

A great exhibition. A great selection of images and music. The different viewpoints throughout the tour make you feel like you're at the bottom of the ocean.

A peaceful place steeped in history. The audio guide complements the exhibits well. I visited one July afternoon; there weren’t many people there, so we took our time looking at everything. The wall projections are magnificent, and the cube and the cistern are great places to take a break. I’d love to go back!

The site can be a bit intimidating to reach by public transportation—it’s a massive building where it’s not easy to find the entrance. But what a discovery lies within! It’s absolutely worth experiencing this majestic blend of stone, water, color, and light. It’s dark inside (naturally), but it’s spacious, and you have plenty of time to appreciate it at your own pace and in your own way.

Buying tickets was easy. The wait to get into the exhibition was a bit long (15 minutes after we arrived...) It's a shame there weren't more paintings by Matisse
