The day was perfect, the pickup was very smooth, and the stops along the way were interesting The guide who took us to the waterfalls was super friendly, and at the end he showed us photos of the village covered in snow this winter, as well as a few of the ski resort in the Atlas Mountains. It seemed almost unreal compared to today’s fantastic weather.

Great tour! The best part is from the visit to the waterfalls through to lunch at the restaurants on the water. The first part, with the panoramic terrace above the bazaar and the argan oil demonstration, is pretty commercial and you could probably skip it. If you take the tour in Italian, be aware that no one speaks it.

It was a pleasant trip with beautiful view from Atlas Mountains. It was interesting to see the house of a Berber family. The tour guide was kind and helpful. It was an experience to have lunch on the river bank.

We booked the full-day tour to the Ourika Valley and waterfalls, and it was an amazing experience. Our driver, Kamal, was extremely helpful and super polite throughout the day. He stopped at a few places before reaching our final destination, but he also told us he would happily stop anywhere we wanted along the way if we asked. He explained so many interesting things to us that at one point I thought he was also our tour guide! Once we arrived at the mountains, the guide led us along the path and showed us the waterfalls. We stopped for tea and truly enjoyed that magical moment. The path can be quite challenging at times, but the guide was always checking on us and even helped my young son along the way. Once we got back down, we had a lovely lunch by the river. Between the traditional music and the monkeys wandering around, the whole experience felt absolutely magical.

What a stunning place to visit. Our driver was great. Good communication, punctual pick-up. Lunch was taken in an amazing spot, right next to the river. Out guide for the walk up to the waterfalls was helpful. It's a steep walk up lots of steps and loose paths so bear than in mind if that's not for you, but the views are wonderful. So glad that we booked this trip!

    Women's Argan Oil Cooperative

    1. Women's Argan Oil Cooperative

Visit a UNESCO-protected women's cooperative where Berber women produce argan oil using traditional methods. Watch them crack the hard nuts between stones and press the kernels—one liter of oil takes over 20 hours to produce. Your guide explains why quality argan oil varies so widely in price and how the cooperative supports local women's livelihoods. Taste the culinary argan oil before buying—it reveals freshness better than cosmetic testing. Get close-up shots of traditional grinding stones and the extraction process.

A magical day with our guide Oussman, who told us about Berber history. He was very attentive and accommodating, ensuring we had a wonderful time at our own pace—a truly personalized experience. Incredible places to discover, lovely artisans, a trail accessible to everyone (wear sneakers), the meal was excellent—a must-see that will leave you with wonderful memories.

Excellent service from our driver-guide Kamal
  • Escape Marrakesh for a full day in the Atlas Mountains, where you'll see Berber villages, learn about argan oil production, and hike to cascading waterfalls fed by mountain snowmelt.

    Getting started

Your driver picks you up from your hotel or riad in Marrakesh between 8:30-9:00am in an air-conditioned minivan. If your accommodation is in the old medina and not accessible by car, you'll meet at a nearby pickup point (confirmed by email the day before). Have your booking confirmation ready. Pickup details will be sent via email the day before your trip (usually by 5pm), or shortly after booking for last-minute reservations.

    What to expect

A full day exploring the High Atlas foothills. You'll drive through mountain scenery, stop at Tnine Ourika village, visit a Berber home, see argan oil being handmade, and hike with a local mountain guide to Setti Fatma waterfalls. The tour includes regular photo stops at panoramic viewpoints overlooking the valley and mountains.

    Features

    • Scenic Atlas Mountains drive: Leave Marrakesh and wind through the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains. Pass red hills, terraced fields, olive groves, and traditional Berber villages set against mountain peaks. The road follows the Ourika River as you climb toward the valley.

    • Tnine Ourika village stop: Stop at Tnine Ourika, a traditional Berber village with a weekly Monday souk. See locals trading spices, produce, textiles, and crafts at the bustling market if your tour falls on a Monday. On other days, you'll pass through the village and continue into the mountains.

    • Women's argan oil cooperative: Watch Berber women crack argan nuts between stones and press the kernels to extract oil. Learn why this "liquid gold" only grows in Morocco and how the cooperative supports local women's livelihoods.

    • Berber home visit: Step inside a traditional adobe house built into the mountainside to see thick walls, handwoven carpets, and low seating areas. Meet a local family and learn how daily life revolves around farming, animal herding, and seasonal rhythms.

    • Ourika Valley arrival: Reach the heart of Ourika Valley, where lush greenery contrasts with the rocky Atlas peaks. The valley is fed by snowmelt from the High Atlas, creating a green oasis just 60km from Marrakesh.

    • Waterfall hike: Walk from Setti Fatma village (elevation 1,500m) up to the first of seven waterfalls at 1,700m. The rocky trail climbs 200 meters in elevation alongside the river, crossing wooden bridges. Your local guide leads the 1-hour hike and points out the remaining 6 waterfalls visible from viewpoints along the path.

    • Riverside setting: Relax by the Ourika River, where cafés and restaurants line the banks. If you've upgraded to lunch, enjoy a 3-course meal with mountain views before returning to Marrakesh.
