Roma and Condesa were built to look like Europe. A British circus impresario founded Roma in 1902; in the 1920s Condesa's Hipódromo was laid out on a failed racetrack, in an oval that still shapes its streets. Then Spanish Republican exiles arrived, and twice, on 19 September, the ground shook.
Start at a Romanesque church cast in concrete and the brick Casa de las Brujas, then walk the Álvaro Obregón promenade past bronze copies of classical statues and Casa Lamm. Pause at the lot where 49 people died in 2017. In Condesa, see the open-hand monument the exiles gave in Parque España, follow the Avenida Amsterdam oval to the Art Deco Foro Lindbergh in Parque México, and end at the cross-shaped Edificio Basurto and the Plaza Popocatépetl fountain.
Ten stops, about 3.1 km and 100 minutes, at your own pace in English or Spanish. Outdoor and public throughout; no entry tickets needed.
