We joined the Tokyo Castle and Imperial Palace Walking Tour on a lovely morning, just us and a few others, which made everything feel more relaxed and personal. Our English-speaking guide had a real knack for making history come alive – turns out, there's so much more to Edo Castle and the imperial family than I'd imagined! We stopped by a perfectly manicured garden that the emperor himself admires, and saw this fascinating miniature model of the former palace, which helped us picture what once stood there. I loved hearing about the samurai and the shoguns, and the stories of how Tokyo grew out of the old castle grounds. The highlight for me was seeing koi fish gliding under ornate bridges and spotting trees brought from all corners of Japan. If I had to nitpick, I wish the pacing had been a little slower through the garden so I could take more photos, but overall, couples or solo travelers will really enjoy this guided experience.

I booked this tour by myself while in Tokyo and was surprised how much I learned in just a couple hours. The group was small, which made it easy to ask questions about Edo Castle and the imperial family. Our guide pointed out parts of the former palace foundations and explained how samurai once protected these grounds. The east garden is just gorgeous – I spent a while admiring the koi fish and all the rare trees. The only thing I’d mention is there was a bit of waiting around for the group to reassemble a couple times, but otherwise the pace was perfect for a leisurely walk. Highly recommended for a deeper look into Tokyo’s past.

Miho ran our tour and did a solid job, especially since the group got smaller because of the rain and there was a last-minute change to the meeting spot due to typhoon stuff. She kept everyone updated and managed all the hiccups without a hitch. We got to talk about local life in Tokyo, which I always love, and picked up lots of history about the palace too. True, you can’t see all the palace grounds, but that’s just how it is. Still, we saw plenty and enjoyed a walk through the gardens, so rain didn't dampen the fun.

Took my parents and little brother to this palace tour while in Tokyo, and we all had a good time. The mix of history (samurai, shogun, and all that) with peaceful strolls through beautiful gardens made it fun for everyone. Our guide’s explanations about the trees and koi fish added a cool nature component to the walk. We did wish for a few more benches along the way for grandparents, but otherwise, the group size was perfect and we learned a ton.

We booked this walking tour on a whim and actually had a pretty cool time. The group was small, so we got to ask questions about the samurai and the whole imperial system. The old palace ruins and that Japanese garden were both awesome for photos. Honestly, wish we spent a bit more time with the koi fish, but two hours flew by. Worth it if you're into chill history walks.
