Ilha Grande has been a national park since 2002, no roads, no cars, no high-rises. Just Atlantic Forest, coral reefs, and 102 beaches. This schooner cruise gets you to the best of them.

Picked up from your hotel in Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, or Leme, the coach handles the ~3-hour road leg to Conceição de Jacareí, then the schooner takes over.

The Blue Lagoon is the kind of natural pool that stops people mid-sentence, starfish on the seabed, corals, and fish in water calm enough to float in with a pool noodle.

Two swim stops (Cataguás Island and Japariz Beach) plus a pass by Freguesia de Santana, home to the oldest church in Angra dos Reis, built in 1843 and sitting right on the waterfront.

Bring R$25 per person in cash for the mandatory Sustainable Tourism Tax, payable on arrival at the port, the municipality may adjust this amount without notice, so carry a little extra.

Pack sunscreen, a hat, a towel, and swimwear for multiple swim stops throughout the day.

Bring a valid government-issued ID or passport for boarding.

What's not allowed

Personal snorkel gear is not permitted on board — rental masks are available on the schooner.
