Booked this whale watching cruise for my girlfriend’s bday and wowww, what a day. The crew was suuuper friendly and kinda made us feel like regulars even tho it was our first time. We spotted a couple whales blowing mist, then one did a HUGE tail slap, totally epic moment! The boat never felt crowded, even with lots of folks moving around for pics (btw, bring your own camera, my phone struggled to zoom far enough). Drinks were strong and snacks were better than I expected (chips and some fresh fruit, not just random crackers). They even let us stand up front for a while when the water was calm. Only weird thing: the PA was a bit fuzzy and we couldn’t always hear the facts about whales, but I caught most of it. Highly recommend if you want chill vibes, ocean air, and a shot at seeing whales up close. Def worth the early wake-up.

Went with my parents and my little brother (he’s 8) – crew was super patient answering all his questions, even when he got stuck on ‘how big are whale hearts’. We saw two whales from a distance and one dolphin pod, but I kinda hoped for more action. Still, the boat was comfy (clean bathrooms, yay) and they handed out ginger chews in case you got seasick (nice touch, actually). Only minus was it got a bit crowded on the top deck when everyone wanted to look at the same time. Drinks were included but not that strong. But all in all, a nice morning out, and my brother keeps talking about whale poop, so I guess it left an impression!

First time whale watching, and I LOVED it!! Booked a solo ticket and ended up chatting with a group from Germany, so didn’t even feel awkward. Staff explained whale behaviors and pointed out every little splash in the distance. Saw three whales, one pretty close to the boat (like, close enough I could hear it breathe?!). Also, they passed around pineapple and cookies, which was a fun little treat. Only thing is I wish we’d seen some dolphins, but can’t control nature. Bring a hat, the sun is intense out there. I’d do this again if I come back for sure.

It was okay, tbh. Booked with friends, and we were all hyped to see whales, but only saw a couple far off. Crew was friendly though, and the drinks helped, lol. Boat was a bit rocky (one friend got queasy), but you do get to walk around, which is nice. Not sure if I’d pay full price again, but if you’ve never done it, it’s a decent way to spend a few hours.

Took my parents while visiting Oahu, and this was the highlight of their trip! The staff really knew their stuff, and everyone was so welcoming. My dad loved chatting with the captain about fishing (they even let him hold one of the rods for a sec). We saw a group of whales breaching in the distance, plus some spinner dolphins came right up to the bow! The boat was clean, drinks were tasty, and they even had sunscreen if you forgot yours. Would absolutely recommend—felt like a small family outing rather than a touristy thing.

What to bring

Keep your voucher handy in either digital or printed form to show at check-in.

Dress in light, windproof layers, as temperatures can feel cooler and breezier once you’re out on the water.

Apply reef-safe sunscreen before boarding and skip spray sunscreens.

Bring binoculars, a camera, or your phone to get a closer look at marine life and capture the scenery.

Pack a reusable water bottle if you prefer, although drinking water is available onboard.

What’s not allowed

Do not touch, feed, or otherwise interact with wild animals during the cruise.

Swimming with or approaching wild dolphins is prohibited, in accordance with federal regulations and Dolphin SMART guidelines.

Whale sightings are guaranteed; if no whales are spotted, you can join another trip free of charge, but cash refunds are not provided.

Whale-watching cruises operate seasonally from December through March and depart from Wai‘anae Harbor, Dock C, in West Oʻahu.

Arrive 20 minutes before departure for check-in and boarding. Boarding closes 10 minutes before departure, and late arrivals may be unable to board.

Complimentary parking is available at Wai‘anae Small Boat Harbor, but it is strongly recommended that you avoid leaving valuables inside your vehicle.

Life jackets and flotation vests are provided for every guest, and the large catamaran is designed for a stable, comfortable ride with reduced motion.

The cruise is suitable for all ages, and the crew can assist if you experience seasickness during the sail.

If weather conditions cause the captain to cancel the cruise, you can choose between a full refund and rebooking.
