Mount Cook: Tasman Glacier Guided Heli-Hike Tour

Getting started

Begin your experience with hotel pickup from Mount Cook Village before heading to the airport. Check in at the designated meeting point and allow at least 45 minutes for the safety briefing and to be fitted with your glacier hiking equipment. Once ready, board your helicopter for the flight over Tasman Glacier.

What to expect

• Scenic helicopter flight: Fly from Mount Cook Airport over Tasman Glacier Lake, glacier ice formations, and the surrounding landscapes of Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park.

• Glacier landing: If selected, land directly on Tasman Glacier and step onto its icy terrain surrounded by the peaks of the Southern Alps.

• 2-hour glacier hike: For the heli-hike option, explore Tasman Glacier on foot with a professional guide. Walk across its surprisingly undulating terrain while taking in changing views of ice formations, snow, and surrounding peaks.

• Mount Cook & Mount Tasman: Take in panoramic views of Aoraki/Mount Cook and Mount Tasman, with both peaks forming part of the Southern Alps backdrop.

• Hochstetter Icefall: On the return flight, fly close to the immense Hochstetter Icefall on the eastern face of Aoraki, rising around 1,000 meters above the glacier.

• Glacier equipment: For the heli-hike option, use specialist glacier equipment including boots and ice crampons, with a waterproof jacket provided if required.

• Mount Cook Village transfers: Travel between your Mount Cook Village accommodation and the airport with hotel pickup and drop-off included.
