I loved that it didn't feel rushed or that there were too many people in our group. I went on my own and the guide was so kind taking photos for me. It didn't feel like a movie set, it felt like I was actually in Hobbiton.

David, our transfer bus driver, was very knowledgeable, energetic, and kind. He shared anecdotes and historical facts about the area we traveled through. He also took great care to have everyone on board feel included. Our guide at Hobbiton regaled us with tales of the making of the movies on the set and the continued work of the designers. She did this without breaking the spell that Hobbiton enveloped us in—a truly great experience.

Amazing tour, a must do if you are in New Zealand. The driver and guide, Daniel was amazing. Do all your shopping at the gift shop when you arrive, on leaving there is no gift shop. No toilets on the pats of Hobbiton. The lunch it's a must, make sure you add the extra on your ticket.

Hands down, one of the best experiences I’ve ever had! Everything was wonderful. The sights were breathtaking, the itinerary was expertly planned, and the food and shopping options were top-tier. Highly recommend booking if you want a seamless and unforgettable time!

Beautifully presented, with a wonderful combination of film related anecdotes and Middle Earth geekery, related to us by a bright,. knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. Food in the cafe is surprisingly good too!

The two walk-in hobbit homes were beautifully designed and my family just loved it. The amount detail that had gone into creating them was exceptional. The tour guide was helpful and funny and gave us an excellent tour of the place and it was quite educational. Finally ending the tour with a complementary drink was also a highlight, while their café inside the hobbit village had good food at reasonable prices. Would love to see some hobbits walking around next time I visit and maybe some activities to do to get a feel for the hobbit life style

Getting started

Arrive at the Shire’s Rest, where your guide will greet you and check your tickets before the tour begins. After a brief introduction, you’ll set off with your group to explore the 12-acre movie set on foot.

What to expect

This iconic set, built on a 1250-acre working farm near Matamata, is where The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies were filmed. Your guide will share behind-the-scenes stories and point out the intricate details that brought Tolkien’s world to life.
