Pro tips to help you make a pick

Book ahead during peak season: Summer months, weekends, school holidays, and public holidays can be busy. Reserve your tickets or tours a few days in advance to secure your preferred date.

Pick an early-morning time slot: Arriving soon after opening typically means fewer crowds, easier parking, and better opportunities for photos from the castle terraces.

Plan for a moderate amount of walking: The castle includes staircases, uneven surfaces, and uphill sections, so allow sufficient time and wear comfortable footwear when choosing your visit slot.

Did you know?

After being destroyed during the Thirty Years' War in 1633, the castle remained abandoned until a major restoration project began in the early 20th century.

The castle was restored between 1900 and 1908 on the orders of Emperor Wilhelm II, who wanted to revive a symbol of the region's medieval past.

Sitting at nearly 800 meters above sea level, the fortress once monitored key trade and wine routes crossing Alsace.
