Discover the "Blue Pearl" of the Rif Mountains and the hidden white Medinas of Tetouan with a travel style that fits your budget and pace.

Getting started

Your day begins at the Tangier Port (Ville) or your city hotel, where you’ll meet your professional driver. Depending on your choice between a shared minivan or a private vehicle, you’ll head south into the rugged Rif Mountains. The transition from the Mediterranean coast to the lush, green mountain peaks is dramatic, and the 2.5-hour drive includes a scenic pause overlooking Nakhla Lake to help you settle into the mountain rhythm.

What to expect

If you’ve selected a Chefchaouen & Tetouan trip, you’ll double your cultural intake. You’ll explore the UNESCO-listed Tetouan, known for its Andalusian architecture, before heading to the blue-washed dreamscape of Chefchaouen. Here, you’ll have hours to wander the sapphire-colored streets, visit the Kasbah, and see the Ras El Ma waterfalls.

For those choosing Chefchaouen only, the day is dedicated entirely to the Blue City, providing more time for a long, traditional lunch at a rooftop restaurant in Plaza Uta el-Hammam. Regardless of your variant, the return journey is timed perfectly with the evening ferry departures, ensuring you get back to the coast safely and stress-free.

Features

Four options: Tailor your trip by choosing between shared value, private luxury, or dual-city itineraries.

Efficient logistics: Direct port and hotel pickup saves you from navigating Tangier’s confusing grand taxi stands.

Expert navigation: Relax while a professional driver handles the winding mountain roads of the Rif range.

UNESCO heritage: An optional stop in Tetouan lets you see one of Morocco’s most authentic, non-touristy Medinas.

What to bring

Motion sickness medication: The road through the Rif Mountains is winding; travelers frequently recommend having this on hand for the 2.5-hour drive.

Comfortable walking shoes: Both Chefchaouen and Tetouan involve steep, uneven cobblestone paths and many stairs.

Small change (Dirhams): Essential for public restrooms (usually 5–10 DH) and small purchases from local mountain artisans.

Light layers: Even if it’s hot in Tangier, the mountain air in Chefchaouen is significantly cooler, especially in the shade.

What’s not allowed

Space is limited, so please stick to one daypack per person.

If you book a shared transfer, the driver must stick to a strict schedule and cannot stop for unscheduled photos.

For shared variants, the van leaves precisely at the scheduled time. Late arrivals from the ferry terminal may lose their spot without a refund.

Smoking is not permitted in the vehicle at any time.

Alcohol and drugs are strictly prohibited during the trip.

You may not bring alcoholic drinks into the vehicle.

Accessibility

These cities are not wheelchair-friendly due to the heavy presence of stairs.

Strollers are highly discouraged in the Medinas. A baby carrier is much more practical for navigating the narrow "Blue" alleyways.

Additional Information

This is a shared day trip, not a guided tour.

Departure is around 9am, with return to Tangier expected around 6pm, depending on traffic.

If your hotel has car access, please wait at the main entrance or hotel reception for pickup.

If you are staying in the Old Medina (non-drivable), please wait at one of these meeting points: Continental Hotel Square (below the Continental Hotel, facing the port) or Grand Socco (Place 9 Avril, next to Cinema Rif).

Pro Tip: If visiting Tetouan, it is the best place to buy authentic leather goods at local prices—it's far less touristy than the Blue City.
