Pro tips to help you make a pick

Reserve a real-name digital ticket in advance, as physical ticket booths have been permanently removed. Tickets can be booked up to 14 days ahead using a valid passport or Chinese ID.

Choose a morning or afternoon session carefully. Pandas are most active during morning feedings between 08:00 and 10:30, while hot-weather protocols can shift viewing indoors once temperatures exceed 26°C.

Pick South Gate entry if your priority is Hua Hua, the historic nurseries, or the Giant Panda Museum. Pick West Gate entry if you want the Panda Tower, Star Nursery, and the newer Phase II habitats first.

Standard self-guided admission includes the South and West Zones, outdoor enclosures, indoor villas, Swan Lake, and the Giant Panda Museum, but it does not include the internal sightseeing bus, audio guide rentals, or dining.

Add the 30 RMB internal sightseeing shuttle pass if you plan to cover both zones or want to avoid the full 7.6-kilometer walk. At the South and West terminals, riders must exit, re-queue, and scan again to continue.

Reserve separate free advance slots for the Panda Tower and Giant Panda Museum if you want both in your itinerary. Villa No. 6 and the Giant Panda Museum are closed on Mondays, and the Panda Tower is closed on Tuesdays except public holidays.

Choose a private guided tour when you want hotel pickup, pre-reserved entry, internal shuttle passes, and a licensed multilingual guide. These tours exclude personal meals and gratuities.

Make sure the booking uses the exact passport number of the visitor and bring that physical passport on the day. Foreign passport holders must use the staffed "Lane for Passport & Other Documents" instead of automated Chinese ID turnstiles.

Why visit Chengdu Research Base Of Giant Panda?

See giant pandas across multiple life stages

The base houses over 160 giant pandas and red pandas across a 3,570-mu sanctuary. Visitors can move between adult villas, juvenile areas, and specialized nurseries rather than relying on a single enclosure.

Visit the nurseries during cub season

From July through October, the Sunshine and Moonlight Nurseries are the main places to see newborn and infant pandas. Newborns are cared for in climate-controlled incubators, while older cubs practice climbing and group play.

Watch Hua Hua at Villa No. 6

Villa No. 6 is home to He Hua, also known as Hua Hua, one of China's best-known giant pandas. The South Zone enclosure also houses her twin sister He Ye, and viewing is managed in timed batches during busy periods.

Walk through open-air red panda habitats

The red panda activity areas use forested runs and elevated wooden boardwalks rather than standard caged displays. In the morning, red pandas can cross above visitor paths on overhead wooden bridges.

Climb the Panda Tower for a panoramic view

The Panda Tower is an 11-story, 52-meter observation tower in the West Zone. From the top, visitors get a 360-degree view across the surrounding bamboo forest canopy and the newer Phase II expansion area.

Plan your visit

South Gate

The historic entrance is at No. 1375 Panda Avenue. It gives the most direct access to Villa No. 6, Sunshine Nursery, Moonlight Nursery, the Giant Panda Museum, and Swan Lake. This gate sees heavy tour bus arrivals from 8am to 10:30am. It has full ramp access, the main visitor service center, and free wheelchair and stroller loans.

West Gate

This Phase II expansion entrance is on the northwest perimeter off Chuanling Road. It provides direct access to Panda Tower, Star Nursery, and the newer habitats. Crowd levels here are described as light to moderate, with rapid clearance through the security gates. The entrance has step-free infrastructure, and the shuttle bus terminal connects directly to the entry plaza.
