Visit Ninna-ji Temple with your admission ticket for the autumn illumination, which is valid only for the date and time selected during booking. At the temple’s ticket counter, open the designated webpage on your smartphone to complete the admission process.

What to expect

• As evening falls, Ninna-ji Temple transforms with illuminated autumn foliage set against the night sky. The Kondo, a designated National Treasure, provides a striking backdrop to the seasonal display.

• At Ninna-ji Temple’s Sea of Clouds & 528Hz Sound Garden, atmospheric lighting and sound combine with a mystical sea of clouds to create an enchanting scene. The illuminated leaves and historic architecture take on a dreamlike quality as the blue hour settles in.

• A ride on the Sagano Romantic Train adds a scenic journey to your Kyoto outing. The train’s distinctive red body, accented with yellow-gold and black, features an Art Deco design. The approximately 7.3km route follows the Hozu River for much of the journey, offering views of the surrounding autumn landscape over a ride of around 25 minutes.

• With the Sagano Romantic Train one-way ticket, choose a journey from Saga-Arashiyama to Kameoka or from Kameoka to Saga-Arashiyama to suit your itinerary. Seats are assigned automatically, and transportation between Ninna-ji Temple and the train stations must be arranged separately.
