They really tried to make my aunt’s 80th birthday special, even put together a surprise landing with gifts, music, and balloons, and filmed the whole thing. She felt like a star and they made her feel comfortable enough to actually go through with it at her age! The team was nice and helpful, but a few small things could’ve been smoother.

They even joined in and took videos at the surprise landing with all the balloons, music, and gifts, which made her feel so celebrated, and they gave her the guts to do something wild at 80! The crew is honestly lovely, you can tell they care and they’re super skilled. Only thing is, I wish the weather had held out for longer, but it was still a really great day!

If you find yourself in Cape Town and want to see it from way up high, with a crew that's just as friendly as they are professional, these folks are a good pick. I'm usually pretty jaded about service, but honestly, they came across as genuine and really helped me feel chill and safe. I'm not great with heights, but flying with Francois, I wasn't nervous at all—even when he asked if I wanted to try the roller coaster move, he let me decide and it was actually a blast! Definitely something to consider doing if you’re in Cape Town. Also, for what it’s worth, I’m no youngster!

Getting started

Check in with your instructor at the designated launch area before your scheduled Cape Town Tandem Paragliding slot. After a short preparation, your gear is fitted and final weather conditions are assessed, since paragliding is a weather-dependent sport. Once everything is cleared for take-off, you walk to the launch point and get ready for your tandem paragliding flight.

What to expect

Cape Town tandem paragliding flight

This is a tandem paragliding flight with a licensed pilot, designed so you can experience free flight without prior training. From take-off to landing, you are attached to your instructor in a shared harness while they control the paraglider.

Your very own experienced paragliding instructor manages the launch, flight, and landing, so you can focus on the sensation of flying and the changing views.

A tandem paragliding flight lets you sit back in the harness while the wing glides through the air, with your instructor adjusting direction and speed throughout.

Safety gear including helmet and harness is provided and fitted for you on site, ensuring you are securely attached to both the paraglider and your instructor.

Transportation back to Signal Hill after the flight is included, so once you land near Seapoint or Clifton you can return easily to the take-off area without arranging your own ride.

What to bring

Footwear: Wear comfortable, closed running shoes suitable for take-off and landing.

Sun protection: Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, as you'll be outdoors during the experience.

Comfortable clothing: Wear comfortable clothes suitable for an outdoor activity.

Accessibility

Age requirement: Guests must be at least 14 years old to participate.

Height requirement: Guests must be no taller than 2.2 m.

Weight requirement: Guests must weigh no more than 110 kg.

Duration: The tandem paragliding experience lasts approximately 1 hour.

Operating season: Flights operate year-round, subject to weather conditions.

Take-off point: Your flight takes off from Signal Hill or Lion's Head, depending on the wind direction.

Landing point: Flights from Signal Hill land opposite Winchester Mansions Hotel in Sea Point, while flights from Lion's Head land in front of the Bungalow in Clifton.

Weather policy: Paragliding is weather dependent. High winds, poor visibility, rain, and low clouds can delay or cancel flights. If conditions don't improve and you cannot reschedule, you'll receive a full refund.

Standby: In poor weather, operations may be placed on standby while the team monitors conditions and provides updates.

Rescheduling: Consider booking early in your trip so there's time to reschedule if weather conditions prevent your flight.

Spectators: Guests are welcome to accompany participants. They can watch the take-off from Signal Hill or Lion’s Head, or wait at the relevant landing point.

Operator liability: The operator is not responsible for travel, accommodation, or other costs incurred due to weather-related delays or cancellations.
