Went with my boyfriend last week! The drive was kinda long (almost 5 hours) but honestly the scenery was BEAUTIFUL. Our driver, Nabil, was super chill and made a couple stops for photos (btw, bring snacks, not much along the way). Chefchaouen itself is even bluer than the pics, but it was a bit crowded near the main square. We wandered into some tiny alleys and found a cat cafe—no joke! Only downside: the bus AC was too cold. Take a sweater!

Chefchaouen is out of a fairy tale! I went solo, felt safe the whole time. Bus left exactly on time (rare for tours lol). Our guide, Sami, was energetic and funny, gave us tips on where to get the best mint tea. Lots of free time to explore. Weather was a little cloudy but still nice for photos. Would def do it again!

Not quite what we expected. We booked for a small group but ended up on a pretty packed bus, so yeah, def more touristy than I hoped. The driver was polite but didn’t explain much. Chefchaouen was STUNNING tho, totally worth seeing. Advice: bring cash, some shops don’t take cards.

Went with my sister. The blue streets are even cooler in real life! We got about 4 hours to explore which felt juuust right. Had the BEST tagine at a rooftop restaurant (can’t remember the name but red chairs outside). Only downside: bus back took forever cuz of traffic. Still, good day!

If you’ve chosen the Volubilis variant, your first stop is the vast, sun-drenched plateau of the Roman Empire, where you’ll walk among 2,000-year-old pillars and intricate mosaics. For those on direct tours, the drive is a scenic ascent through olive groves and mountain vistas.

What to expect

Chefchaouen is a visual feast. Once you arrive, you have the freedom to explore at your own pace. What to bring

Walking shoes with grip: Chefchaouen is famously steep with slippery blue stones; supportive footwear is essential for the 4-hour exploration.

Sun protection: The Roman ruins at Volubilis (Variant 95251) have very little shade; bring a hat and high-SPF sunscreen.

Small cash (MAD): You’ll need roughly 70 DH for Volubilis entry and 10–20 DH for small tips or public restrooms.

Motion sickness bands: The drive through the Rif Mountains features many curves; travelers often find these helpful for a smoother ride.

What’s not allowed

Space in shared minivans is limited. Please restrict luggage to one small daypack per person for maximum comfort.

If on a shared transfer, the driver cannot stop for extra photos to ensure the group returns on time.

Flying drones in Morocco is strictly prohibited without a government permit and may lead to confiscation at police checkpoints.

Accessibility

Chefchaouen and Volubilis are not wheelchair accessible due to hundreds of stairs and uneven, ancient dirt paths.

We recommend using a baby carrier; navigating a stroller through the narrow, stepped Medina alleys is extremely difficult.
