Right from the start the tour was grand. The attendants and drivers were courteous and respectful to everyone and extremely knowable about the areas we visited. The acomodations were marvelous and above my expectations and the area it was located in was great. I was set up in the Hotel Anoniadis which was located directly across the street from a Natural History and Mushroom museum. and was within easy waling distance of the main streeet in Meteora and lined with great restaurants and tavernas and general shopping stores. How much better could that have been. The guides were very helpful to me personally and assisted me in walking and climbing when I needed it without hesitation. That was a great comfort to me. I would highly recommend your tours for sure.

Nos encantó visitar Meteora con vuestra compañía. Todo estuvo perfectamente organizado desde el principio hasta el final. Los horarios se cumplieron exactamente como estaban previstos, lo que hizo que el viaje fuera muy cómodo y sin preocupaciones. La relación calidad-precio es excelente, especialmente teniendo en cuenta todo lo que incluye la excursión. El transporte fue cómodo, la información proporcionada fue muy interesante y el equipo fue siempre amable y profesional. The 2 day Meteora tour is fantastic. Ask for the guide Kosta! He's a history teacher and has grown up in Meteora. Not only does he know everything about the history of the rocks and the monestries, but he is also a great and easy understandable narrator. The 3 star hotel Alexiou is very good, especially the breakfastbuffet. I recommend on day 2 the walking tour, with the same guide Kosta. To experience the nature, both flora and fauna. We saw several turtles and butterflies in the wood. Both tours were very good!

What to bring

Bring a small amount of cash for monastery fees (€3 to €5 per person) and small purchases.

Wear supportive, closed-toe shoes with a solid grip. Many of the footpaths include steps, stones, and uneven surfaces.

Carry a refillable water bottle and a light snack, particularly in the warmer months, between June and August.

Make sure to bring your own earphones and a fully charged smartphone to listen to the audio guide during your visit.

What's not allowed

Photography is allowed in most outdoor areas, but don't click pictures inside chapels, or of resident monks, or nuns.

Drones are not permitted without prior authorization, due to the area’s protected status and privacy concerns.

Accessibility

Meteora's terrain is not suitable for wheelchairs. Every monastery requires you to climb stairs or walk along sloped paths.

If you have limited mobility, consider visiting St. Stephen’s Monastery. It offers easier access with a paved pathway and fewer stairs than the others.

Additional information

Your tour bus will be waiting directly across from the Larissa station, on Theodore Diligianni Street, in front of Everest Café. Look for the bus with the 'Meteora Thrones-Travel Center' sign on the window.

Depending on the day, you’ll enter 2 to 4 monasteries. Each monastery has one designated closing day per week (Great Meteoron is closed Tuesdays, and Varlaam is closed Fridays), so the tour route may vary.

Most monasteries require a €3 to €5 offering per person, payable in cash at the gate.

Dress modestly. Men must wear long pants; women should cover their shoulders and wear skirts below the knee. Wraps are often provided at entrances.

Transportation between sites is provided via local minibuses or shuttle coaches.

Restrooms are available at the larger monasteries, such as Great Meteoron, Varlaam, and St. Stephen’s. Some may request a small tip for use.

Guides are not allowed inside monasteries. If you'd like to explore further, multi-language audio guides are available to use on your own mobile.
